Saving Iceland Coffee/Film Evenings - Reykjavik
Cultural/Events | Saving IcelandAt Saving Iceland we are very aware that our presence in Iceland is surrounded by mystery, rumours, spectacle and a general otherness. We feel like we are as weird and wonderful as anyone else but we recognise that being interpreted by the TV and bloggers means that we can seem quite strange.
For this reason we decided to hold monthly old fashioned coffee evenings in Reykjavik where you can meet some of us, meet each other, meet other people who have opinions about dam, aluminium, heavy industry, etc. Even if you have problems with what we do, come and talk with us.
Signed Sigur Rós Records on ebay for Saving Iceland!
Cultural/EventsUpdate! 26 August 2007
Wow, the collection sold for a cool US $512! Thank you to everyone who made up the twenty-seven bids and of course to 'mictech_01' from Germany who put down the winner. Also, another massive we love you to Sigur Rós for this, for the inspiring music and for the support. PRESS RELEASE

Icelandic author Andri Snær Magnason will speak about Iceland as a political, economic, and sociological microcosm of the world, arguing that Iceland as an island can be used as a model to understand issues of conflict, interest, influence, war, independence, and dependency around the globe. Drawing on his recent bestseller, Dreamland: Self Help for a Frightened Nation, Mr. Magnason will use local topics to help understand complex global issues like the military industrial complex, the exploitation of natural resources, globalization, corporations, and democracy. The New York Times calls Dreamland, which was awarded both the Icelandic Literary Award and the Icelandic Bookseller Prize in 2006, “a devastating polemic that puts Iceland's environmental issues into a global perspective.”
